33 002's visit to the Great Central Railway is successful so far. So much so that it has now been arranged for the loco to stay 'til their September diesel gala! Myself and Rob Kitley went up for the diesel running weekend on the 16th & 17th June. The weather was quite kind to us, only a few showers, suprising as the forcast had been awful. 33 002 spent the weekend on the back of a shuttle between Loughborough and Rothley plus one trip to Leicester on Saturday evening. Sister Birmingham RC&W built loco, class 26 D5401 was on the other end. Also running was an Ivatt and a Black 5 steam engines and a 37 on the Saturday and the splendid Peak class 45 loco D123 on the Sunday. A good time appeared to be had by all and we very much thank the GCR people for looking after us well and making us very welcome. Here are some pictures: GCR June Diesel Gallery

12th May 2012

Well 33 002 is back in traffic after it's turbo and cylinder head overhaul. Our Crompton is soon off to the Great Central Railway, between Loughborough and Leicester for their Diesel Gala and a couple of running weekends. The dates as known at the moment are: Diesel Gala; 19th & 20th May, Steam meets Diesel Gala; 2nd & 3rd June, Mini Diesel Event; 16th & 17th June. Find out more from the Great Central Railway Website.

We've been doing the normal spring servicing of D8110 and D7612 to prepare them for their various duties and D7541 is progressing slowly!

Rob Kitley, Neil Cannon and Pete Burrow have very kindly sent in some pictures of the SDR Easter Gala, Thomas weekend and the rebuilding of 33 002's Turbo. Here is a gallery of these pictures:

33 002's turbo has been pronounced as in good order and should be back with us soon, which is a relief to us!

Class 25 D7541's restoration continues. Our seriously rebuilt coolant settling tanks have been painted and are ready to go back. At first we thought they weren't as rusty as D7612's and were going to be shotblasted and repaired. Unfortunately after shot blasting this was obviously not the case, so therefore they have been remanufactured. Dave Watkins has done a wonderful job of the cab floor which is now being Painted by Andy, Rob and the gang. They've also done the radiator arch and the other bits.

33 002 was getting a bit smoky for a rebuilt engine. Consequently we have identified that the turbo needs professionally checking and is being sent away to be sorted and three cylinder heads with dodgy valve guides are being overhauled by us. There's always plenty to keep us busy!
