Richard Bruford 18/07/2010 The prototype Brown Boverei Gas Turbine loco was on display. It was tested on the Western region in the early fifties but was given up on as it couldn't pull 350 tons up Hemerdon bank from a standing start. It was therefore deemed unsuitable and returned to Switzerland. Sadly it has been repatriated without it's gas turbine, but is still an interesting exhibit. |
